Yes, really ugly, but it does work. Thanks. Now at least I have been able to
give my root account a password.  Unfortunately, also, what I though was my
personal account, apparently has a lot more power than any sane user should
want.

When you first login, run the management gui stuff and you can lock this down (or sudo the management items)

I agree on the approach but it's simple to lock it down pretty quickly and it does discourage people leaving themselves logged in for extended periods as root (or worse, going out on the 'net as root, something seen all too often on IRC networks)
