I absolutely agree, but I'm not sure `missing' is a good start.  Let's
dive into shtool too, there might be good ideas in there.

Autoconf plans to swallow `missing' or something equivalent in a
future (but close) release.  But we should think twice before creating
a monster `missing'.

Honestly, I see no difference between plenty of small utilities and
one big.  The difference is moot to me (Hm, I read that somewhere, but
I'm not sure I'm writing correct English :).

We have AC_CONFIG_AUX_DIR which is currently an excellent means to
leave the room as clean as we first found it.
