Really, I'm attached to this issue because we have extraordinarily improved Autoconf wrt cross compilation. Finally it is understandable, simple and fully under control. I find that this dangling $host with several semantics is maculating the changes, and leave a door opened for mis uses and abuses. If we evacuate this, what remains is clear and unambiguous. Akim
