As Abbas T's next "Jhoota He Sahi" approaches with music by ARR, the same team
that worked on Jaane Tu, I revisited Jaane Tu and found the musical experience
to be just as refreshing and bright as when I first heard the album. I still
love that album for many reasons.

I feel that Jaane Tu was a necessary album in ARR's career to showcase how he
can score music for a relatively light, mainstream, romcom film without
compromising on class. Yes, the music is lighter and more poppish than what
we're used to hearing from ARR, and for some people, it was a turn off. But,
to me, it showcased, once again, ARR's incredible versatility as a musician to
know when to put the brakes on......light treatment to musical arrangements,
reduced instrumental density, more breathing room to the songs, more
conventionally structured songs with hummable melodies. And yet, the music to
me had that unmistakable ARR stamp without musical acrobatics.........and to
me....that is the genius of ARR........his signature can be felt in more
subtle, lighter forms without the need for high octane musical adventurism.
For me, knowing when to put the "musical brakes" on is a hallmark of a true
genius artist, as ARR has shown before too through minimalism. But, this was
minimalism in a more poppish and less spiritual form and to me, it hit the
bullseye within that genre. And boy did the music take off with the youth!!!
CDs sold like hotcakes and the music went on to win awards. Other MDs too
raved about the soundtrack.

The production and sound value of Jaane Tu was brilliant to me too. The
arrangements were crisp and bright.

My favorites on that album are Kabhi Aditi, Jaane Tu (Both male and female),
Kahin To, and Tu Bole. Tu Bole had the most amazing trumpet improv jazz that
totally blew me away when I first heard it. That song is one of my
favorites!!!
