I beg to differ here. I really felt Karthik has done a wonderful job in Behne
De. The song clearly speaks of the protagonist's passion and longing...and
Karthik managed to voice out these feelings with such great intensity through
his powerful singing. And the way his voice travels from the low notes to the
higher notes with ease...well, I don't know about you guys, but I can't help
feeling mesmerised by his versatility here.

On the other hand, I agree that many of the young singers today are no match to
SPB, Hariharan, Udit or Sonu, but then again, how is it fair to compare the new
breed of singers with those of 20-40 years experience in the field? With all
due respect, Dr. SPB started of his career through a rather adequate singing
himself. It's only because of his determination, passion, hardwork and years of
training that finally saw him coming up with such spectacular vocals. And
Hariharan was already a trained ghazal singer and has cut many ghazal albums
before he entered the film world. On the other hand, singers like Benny, Naresh
and Javed had nothing behind their name when they were introduced. Thus, it's
still too early to judge their ability as singers when they are still in the
learning stage. I'm very sure, as time goes by, these singers would be able to
express their true talents to the world.

Yes Rawat - I tend to agree with your observation. This is happening
lately with quite a few ARR songs where the vocals aren't powerful and they
seem to be layered as one more track in the composition. Is it because of lack
of vocalists such as SPB, Hariharan, Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Sukhi? All the
recently used male vocalists (Benny, Javed Ali (ok), Naresh, Vijay) don't come
close to any of the above.

And interestingly, the female songs don't seem to have this issue.

ARR used to use 'fit-for-purpose' vocalists for each of his songs - guess that
approach has become impractical considering the number of increasing projects
that needs to get completed.

Behne de is the first song of the album that I heard on FM radio, and

I am liking it ever since - for its music. I even said that it is in

the genre of enigma the way it engulfs us from all around filling

entire universe.

However, i feel that the male voice could actually falls short in

keeping up with the greatness of its music. the voice does not add to

the effect, but is shy and contained that goes contrary to the feel

generated by the music. I feel some heavy voice, more vocal would have

done better justice to the song.

It is in a way like JA where movie was louder and exhibitionist

whereas music was softer and personal. In behne de, it is music that

is louder and all encompassing whereas the male voice is softer and

personal, almost sounding as if the guy is thinking loudly, talking to

himself.

I wonder why ARR brought such a contrast as I believe that it has to

be intentional. Anyone has any idea about it.

I also wonder whether the movie visuals will clarify it.

Thanks.
