I don't agree with Zsolt.

There are many factory besides the number of downloads that influence
the revenue from ads:
- Number of active downloads
- Downloads through other distribution channels than Android market
- Number of users actually using the app
- Average time the user is using the app per day
- How long is the ad visible to the user (a task killer app is used
just for a couple of seconds while a game might be open for more than
an hour)?
- How obtrusive is the ad?
- How often is the ad changed (doesn't make sense to show the same ad
for more than a minute)?
- How much time to ppl have to use the phone (daytime, week day, time
of year etc.)?
- How much is the advertiser willing to pay per click?
- Are there big campaigns running?
- ...

The Android market is ad driven, users are not as willing to pay as
they are on the iPhone.
While Zsolt might make more money with his paid version and while this
might be the case for many developers that make a couple of $ per day,
most of the revenue is made by serving ads.
It's just a matter of getting a large piece of the cake instead of
just a tiny one ;-). I'm making >$100 a day with one app and I'm
pretty sure that the potential for this app is >$500 or even >$1000 if
distribution strategies and channels are wisely used.
I'm just guessing but Angry Birds probably makes many thousand dollars
each day, just by serving ads ;-)..
