Hi Ralf, thank you for your mail.

Yesterday, I installed pulseaudio and pavucontrol. Running with pulseaudio I did not notice any change. With pavucontrol there were to findings: - Plugging in and plugging out of the headphones are detected - the meter for the headphone moves in a normal range which corresponds to the sound from the file. Nevertheless the output is almost not to hear. > If you're using plain ALSA without a sound server, you'll probably need > to configure it to specify that you want to use headphones instead of, > say, HDMI. > > I've configured ALSA so that I can use the speakers on my EV2450 monitor > via HDMI: > > ??? rocketmouse@archlinux ~ > $ aplay -l | grep EV2450 > card 3: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: HDMI 0 [EV2450] > ^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^ > > ??? rocketmouse@archlinux ~ > $ cat .asoundrc > defaults.pcm.card 3 > defaults.pcm.device 3 > > In your case... > > On Tue, 2026-11-03 at 22:14 +0100, [email protected] wrote: > > headphone > > > > APLAY > > > > **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** > > card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog] > ^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^ > > Subdevices: 1/1 > > Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 > > card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 1: ALC892 Digital [ALC892 Digital] > > Subdevices: 1/1 > > Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 > > card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] > > Subdevices: 1/1 > > Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 > > ... you could also configure it for the headphones, that is, "Analog", > for the user via $HOME/.asoundrc, with the following content: > > defaults.pcm.card 0 > defaults.pcm.device 0 I created the file /etc/asound.conf with these two lines. It should provide these settings globally. Regrettably, I found no improvment. > On the other hand, I suspect that "card 0" and "device 0" are default > values that shouldn't actually require any configuration. As I read that the mapping of controls in alsamixer was wrong (Front was not Front but something else). I checked which sliders / setting have an effect. Element Slider Mute-Switch Master yes no Headphone no no PCM yes no Front no no Sourrond no no Center yes no I found it remarkable that the mute-switch never had an effect. As if the traces I am able to hear are remants of permanent muting. I find it as well astonishing that selection of playback elements (with F3) does not hide elements (like Front Mic) I would regard as input. > Unlike professional or prosumer audio devices, you don't need dmix or a > soundserver for these onboard audio devices so that multiple programs > can access the audio device at the same time. Regrettably, I cannot check whether a HDMI monitor with speakes would receive an audio signal as I use a monitor with VGA cable. > Every now and then I read on mailing lists that there are problems > with onboard devices and headphones. So far, I did not search in the debian user mailing list.
