Hello, I am new to the list and I'm desperate with my soundcard. It is on a Gericom laptop, and worked previously under Linux. I used Mandrake 9.1 for almost a year and recently installed Debian Sid. At first, the sound was OK, but one day, I opened a root X session (startx -- :1) while playing music on another user session and sound dissapeared.
Alsa runs correctly, aumix too but Kmix complains about not having ALSA mixer or ALSA controller installed (they both are). Today I noticed that sound has not dissapeared, just the volume is too low, and now I have all volumes set to max and a pair of speakers connected, also at max volume, but it sounds really low and awful. What kills me is the fact that yesterday I installed Mandrake 10.0 on another partition and I have the same problem. It is not a hardware problem since it works perfectly under Windows XP. More details: - Soundcard: SiS 7012 - Kernel: 2.6.3 and 2.4.25 - ALSA device list: #0: SiS SI7012 at 0xdc00, irq 11 - Window Manager: KDE 3.2 I have already tried purging ALSA and reinstalling. Hope you can help, thank you on advance. -- Carlos Garcia Argos Estudiante de Ingeniería Superior de Telecomunicación Miembro de la Rama de Estudiantes del IEEE de Málaga ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: IBM Linux Tutorials Free Linux tutorial presented by Daniel Robbins, President and CEO of GenToo technologies.
