I have sound with the via82xx, but not through alsa [after I did a
(Format & Reinstall)-like drastic procedure, changing my Linux
distro from Conectiva to Fedora Core].

I heard rumours that this damned soundcart is unable to record
sound, except in some lucky configurations with alsa. Since I
suffered for 4 months trying to _hear_ it produce sound, I am
afraid to try to install alsa and get back to the mute world.

Is there any way to save the current configuration - save
everything that is sound-related - so that I can get back in
case I install alsa and lose the sound? Or am I too optimistic,
and I will never get sound recording?
