Have you checked Debian Bugs?

There's a grave functionality bug in alsa-base which sounds similar to the 
problem you're reporting. If you don't want to wait for Debian's pending 
fixed upload into unstable then compile and install the latest ALSA source 
packages: alsa-driver, alsa-utils and alsa-lib.
