The same here.
I've been told that the only digital audio chip ALSA supports for optical output (what about input?) is the C-Media 8738.
Really? I think since Version 0.9.7 SPDIF output _should_ even work for audigy-based cards. (i'm absolutly not shure) But right there is my problem.
Using an Audigy 1, alsa-driver-0.9.7, the rest ist 0.9.6:
<$PROMPT $>mplayer -ac hwac3 dvd://1 [...] alsa-init: requested format: 48000 Hz, 2 channels, AC3 alsa-init: soundcard set to iec958:AES0=0x2,AES1=0x82,AES2=0x0,AES3=0x2 ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1055:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D3p failed: No such device alsa-init: playback open error: No such device Could not open/initialize audio device -> no sound. Audio: no sound [...]
Don't know what i'm missing. Mhhhhh.
Can anyone shed light on the ALSA S/Pdif situation? Thanks!
I would be greatful as well - thanks.
