Note that Jason is talking about Audigy Platinum EX, not Audigy2 Platinum EX. I, like you, have Audigy2 Platinum EX and the alsa drivers do not work with it at all (refuse to load). I have to use the driver from emu10k1 project, which seems to work (at least to some extent).
