I've got pretty much the same set-up as J. Roughan, (RedHat kernel 2.4.9-34 on a TP600e, with ALSA 0.9.0rc3) and it won't start either. I also tried using the cs46xx driver - no go. I ran Takashi's script, and it correctly identified my machine, but ended with the message "no legacy cards found".
