Hi,

Thanks for all you suggestions. I tried to compile Freeamp (which I've
run on Windows before), but it requires libmusicbrainz, and for some
reason I'm having problems with ftp.musicbrainz.org. Apparently Freeamp
supports ALSA and can be run on the command line, so hopefully I'll get
to the bottom of this and check it out.

To my chagrin, mpg123 chokes on "corrupted" mp3s, and since many of my
files appear to be (even though they sound fine with the more "tolerant"
players), I guess mpg123 isn't a good option.

So for CLI playing, I guess I'll go with Alsaplayer, in spite of its
limited interface. It does have some cool features, anyway, like the
playback speed adjustment (good for playing along on my guitar without
retuning!). But I'll probably keep xmms around for GUI use. It seems
to sound a little better with my MOD files, too, though I don't know why
it should.

Thanks again,

--Jason
