I totally agree, I am very new to linux and even though I have experience with C and other languages, I haven't been able to get my Dell to make sounds under red hat 6.1. The sound card is a yamaha ds-xg, and i followed the how to with no problems, no everything seems should work, but doesn't. I think especially a how to of alsa addressing specific distributions (and red hat in my case) would be very helpful, i have looked for it for days without any luck. for example, the conf.modules i edited was blank, does it mean it was not being used? i mean a newbie is a newbie, not an unexperienced linux administrator or programmer. Thanks to all the people who work on how to's and manuals. Despite the difficulty of linux, some of us are still trying... FM. > >Just a thought.
