Hi! I have Trust Digital Sound Expert Surround 5.1 (using cmi8738 -chip and finally I received Harman/Kardon AVR 35RDS amplifier with what I can try digital-IO. I was dissapointed to quality of sound with coaxial cable from Trust to H/K. I use cmipci -driver and analog quality is fine, but when I enable spdif (and switch my amplifier to digital input) quality is horrible. Low frequencies disorts very much, like when overdriving analog signal. Mixer settings won't affect to volume at all (like it should be when using digital-IO?). With alsa-driver 0.9.0beta10 it sounded like hell's got loose, with 0.9.0rc1 it distorts only a bit. Using kernels builtin cmpci -driver I get same distort.
Using Windows I get this disort if I set volume to maximum level (mixer settings will affect to volume in Windows - how this can be? it surely won't be 1:1 quality to amplifier...) and if I'll lower volume to 50% it'll play nicely. When playing with Windows and DVD-software, mixer settings somehow locks to lower level, mixer slider won't do any good and quality of sound is very good. Weird. Has anybody have similiar problems and have you any ideas? Is optical cable worth of trying? Could this be problem with H/K, not with Trust? I'll appreciate any help, thanks! Ps. Sorry moderators, I posted multiple postes, all my fault (wrong sendes e-mail address, wrond destination address etc.).
