I compiled my kernel without any fb type of support
and I'm still getting dropouts. I recall that when
I first booted my new kernel, I don't think I was getting
dropouts and it's only later when I installed some custom
modules like lirc or vmware or bttv that things started to
get bad, but I can't seem to pinpoint the bad guy.
Here are the list of devices registered (/proc/devices).
I also have a promise ide ultra100 card that I use.
I'd have to maybe do a really slim kernel and then try adding
modules one by one. I could maybe try the low-lantecy as well
but since oss/free and oss/commercial run fine on the same kernel
there must be something killing alsa's performance.
