Thanks for the tip with alsamixer (as you said it's much better to see what you are doing) but doesn't change my problem. I just unmuted every channel without any result. Perhaps should I try with gamix as Bill Allen on the mailing list suggested me, but I'm not sure that change anything to my problem.
When I'm looking to /proc/asound/sndstat it tells me that everything is recognized (card config, audio devices, Midi devices, Timers, Mixers) except "Synth devices" (NOT ENABLE IN THE CONFIG) Perhaps did I forget a compil. parameter for alsa drivers. I only used --with-cards=ymfpci. I didn't used --with-oss= or --with-sequencer= . By the way which are the default for them (yes or no) I'm using a KDE interface. Is there any chance to get a conflict between my config and KDE ? (I disabled the KDE sound server but it doesn't help). I don't think so because I used to get this sound card working on the same exact laptop (but with a Mandrake 7.1 and an older version of alsa-driver) To be honest I just don't understand what's wrong (this is not coming from the hardware, because I've got a dual boot with 2000 pro and sound is working). Perhaps shoud I start again from 0 ? any ideas? anyway thanks for your help.
