Well, I did a reinstall of ALSA. After installing the drivers (with the
"--with-isapnp=yes" option), then the libs, then the utils, I did the
./snddevices in the the alsa drivers directory. I then did the "modprobe
snd-card-es1688" then the "depmod -a". I also check my cards via "cat
/proc/asound/cards" and my card was shown there.

My problem is when I type amixer, I get "The ALSA sound driver was not
detected in this system." This message also shows whenever I reboot. Also,
when I try to install OSS support via "modprobe snd-pcm1-oss" (I need for
xmms), I get the message "modprobe: Can't locate module snd-pcm1-oss". Didn't
I already put the module snd-pcm1-oss when I installed the ALSA libraries?
