Before, I had RedHat 6.2 on my laptop. However, I recently migrated to
Slackware.

My problem is configuring the soundcard. In RedHat 6.2, I used the command
soundconfig (I forgot the exact name, though) to set the IRQs and stuff (I
had to do that to make my sound card work properly). Now, there is no
soundconfig in Slackware. Some tutorials also say to edit the conf.modules.
Somehow, I don't have it on my system.

I know that the proper module for my soundcard (an ESS ES1688) is compiled in
to the kernel. I checked it with lsmod. I even inserted "modprobe
snd-card-es1688" in the /etc/rc.d/rc.M. Still no luck.

I also tried "cat /dev/dsp" to test the sound card (I read somewhere to do
this to test the soundcard), but I get the message "No such device"
