I belive that kde does not have direct support for alsa 0.9.x so you
should use oss for now. ALSA has oss emulation which works perfectly
fine for most things.

With sblive and midi you need to do some tricks with sound fonts. There
are plenty of descriptions of how to do this in the archives. Including
the old archives hosted by alsa-project.org. You can access the new
geocrawler archives only by going through the links on the main webpage.
AFAIK if you go direct to the sourceforge page you can't access them.
Don't recall why though.
