I'm using KDE 2.2.2 w/ALSA 0.9b9, and a SBLive! Mandrake 8.1, kernel 2.4.14 (from kernel.org sources, not from Mandrake).
ALSA compiled with --with-debug=full --with-sequencer=yes --with-oss=yes --with-cards=all I can get KDE to play sounds if I set it to use OSS as it's Sound I/O Method; setting it to use ALSA results in no sound. Also, I see no MIDI devices at all. cat /proc/asound/sndstat: [turgon@minas-aran alsa-driver-0.9.0beta9]$ cat /proc/asound/sndstat Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v0.9.0beta9 emulation code) Kernel: Linux minas-aran.mike-leone.com 2.4.14 #7 Fri Nov 16 20:48:55 EST 2001 i686 Config options: 0 Installed drivers: Type 10: ALSA emulation Card config: Sound Blaster Live! at 0xd000, irq 5 Audio devices: 0: EMU10K1 (DUPLEX) Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG Midi devices: 0: EMU10K1 MPU-401 (UART) Timers: 7: system timer Mixers: 0: mixer00 [turgon@minas-aran alsa-driver-0.9.0beta9]$ cat /proc/asound/version Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 0.9.0beta9. Also, why would KDE not output sound if I set the Sound I/O Method to ALSA? System sounds work; RealPlayer works; XMMS works; etc. KDE Media Player does NOT (not that I really need it) Any help greatly appreciated. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Michael J.
