when i try to use alsactl or amixrer, i get the folling messages,
resplectively...

alsactl: No soundcards found...

The ALSA sound driver was not detected in this system.

but i can use kmix or gmix to unmute the volumes and sound works
perfectly fine.  i found a few references to a similar problem in older
posts to the mailing list, but there dind't seem to be any concrete
solution.  i'd like to be able to use alsactl ro restore mixer settings
on bootup rather than manual resetting them everytime.  anyone know
what's wrong?  here's my modules.conf file:
