I find this very unclear regarding the application of your implicitude. >This is a bit ugly, but probably less so than > >On Tuesday 07 August 2007, Zefram wrote: >> CAN assign an ID number to it by announcement, and >> SHALL do so[.] Your [] is wrong, making this look uglier than it really is. Is this why you voted against it? There's an "as soon as possible" before the end of the sentence. The full sentence is Whenever an instance of that type does not have an ID number, the player held responsible by that rule (or, if there is no such player, the Speaker) CAN assign an ID number to it by announcement, and SHALL do so as soon as possible. I think this is very clear regarding what is possible and what is required. If I wanted to make exactly the same thing mandatory that was permitted then I'd write "the toastmaster CAN and SHALL initiate a toast as soon as possible", which I do not think is ugly. >The toastmaster CAN initiate a toast to agora after a proposal passed IF >the proposal had an adoption index of at least 3, in which case e SHALL do >so as soon as possible IF e has a bag on eir shoulder. I'd express what I think you're trying to express there as After a proposal with an adoption index of at least 3 passes, the toastmaster CAN initiate a toast to Agora, and SHALL do so as soon as possible with a bag on eir shoulder. -zefram
