I was able to log into it via SSH. No surprise, it's running firmware
3.3.22 from 2017. The oldest firmware on their website is 3.7.58 from
2019. I tried to tell it to update to that firmware, but I think the
firmware is no longer there, because I get this error:
BZ.v3.3.22# upgrade

Invalid firmware.
It can ping the host dl.ui.com, so I think the "unable to resolve"
message is referring to the file, and not the host. The discovery tool
can find it, so it looks like my best bet is to reset it and try to
update it from the controller (I was able to d/l controller 5.10.17,
which is the oldest on their website.

I think if you download an old controller version from before the EOL,
you can probably manage it. Go to:
https://www.ui.com/download/unifi/
Scroll down past the "Firmware" section to the "Software" section.
Below that, click the button that says "See Past Software". Controller
versions there go back to 2019.
I've not done this before, but it seems like it should work. Just keep
in mind that since it's not the same controller that was used to adopt
and set up the AP, you'll probably have to physically reset the AP
before the controller will allow you to adopt and do anything with it.
And of course, if you reset the AP, and then find out that the old
controller version somehow knows it's EOL, then you're completely
hosed and have effectively just bricked the AP. I doubt that will
happen, but I've doubted a lot of things that did happen, so take that
for what it's worth. :)

Welp, it's been about 3 years since I've needed to make any
changes to the Unifi AP-LR that we installed way back in 2015 (I
think). Durn thing works really well. So well, in fact, that I
haven't made any changes in it since before the pandemic (maybe
longer).
Today, my SO asked me to change the WiFi PW. She asked if it's a
big deal. Nope I answer (confident as usual). Gosh darn, the Unifi
controller is no longer on my desktop (no surprise, I replaced the
desktop a couple years ago.
I go to the Ubiqiti web site to D/L the controller, etc. and find
that that model was EOL'd back in 2021. Sheesh. What do I do now?
The thing works as well (or better) than any WiFI AP I've had
before, so I am loath to replace the thing just to change the PW.
What's the best way to deal with this?
