Pun intended I presume. Yeah, when you have to go cross country, blowing more
than 3000’ in one stretch can be a challenge. So having access for blowing and
slack every 2500’ or 3000’ is needed. But big expensive handholes are not
needed. You can direct bury slack loops but out here we would have gopher
damage in every one if we did that.

Seems like a narrow use case

Subject: [AFMUG] Steel handholes

Hello people,

I got tired of the lack of handholes in the supply chain. Years ago I was
making polymer handhole lids with our logo in it. It was a vanity project and
I learned that if you want to be in the polymer handhole business you need to
take delivery of polyester resin by the railcar. Else you will not make a
profit.

So, lately I am constructing in the UDOT ROW. They require tier 22 rated
handholes. I only need slack storage because there are super long distances
between areas where I actually need to access the fiber but I do have at 2500’
or 3000’ limit for blowing.

So I created a galvanized steel 24x18 inch hand hole that is 6’ wide. It will
hold 150’ of slack of the largest cables. It can be installed with just a vac
ex. We have to come out of UDOT HHs that we are sharing and go into our own.
They will not allow slack loops in their HHs.

This will make it so we don’t have to install a full 18 X 24 X 24 or 36” deep
polymer HH just to store slack.

My handhole is light enough that one stout person can pick it up and place it.

Maybe others are interested?
