Years ago I was making polymer handhole lids with our logo in it. It was a vanity project and I learned that if you want to be in the polymer handhole business you need to take delivery of polyester resin by the railcar. Else you will not make a profit. So, lately I am constructing in the UDOT ROW. They require tier 22 rated handholes. I only need slack storage because there are super long distances between areas where I actually need to access the fiber but I do have at 2500’ or 3000’ limit for blowing. So I created a galvanized steel 24x18 inch hand hole that is 6’ wide. It will hold 150’ of slack of the largest cables. It can be installed with just a vac ex. We have to come out of UDOT HHs that we are sharing and go into our own. They will not allow slack loops in their HHs. This will make it so we don’t have to install a full 18 X 24 X 24 or 36” deep polymer HH just to store slack. My handhole is light enough that one stout person can pick it up and place it.
