I've had mine for a couple of years.  I'm happy.  Keep in mind the up front
charge covers all the data for the next few years, too.  At $0/mo I'm much
happier.

The way the units are built I'm not feeling like they were intended for a
battery replacement but once it's dead there's no reason not to pop it open
and see what you can do.

It's reporting once a day and that's what makes the battery last so long.
Once you know there's a problem, you can enable constant monitoring (which
could start anywhere from 1 minute to 24 hours).
