Probably related to why they don’t want to just give all Covid-19 patients 
Dexamethasone, which suppresses the immune response.  Covid kills some people 
by triggering an immune system over reaction, but suppress it, and then other 
stuff can kill you.

 

And yes, overuse of antibiotics is a big problem, both in medical practice, and 
other areas like agriculture.  But solving that problem is difficult, because 
the people who die from the resulting antibiotic resistant superbugs are not 
the same as the people misusing the antibiotics.  It’s like you stick your hand 
in the fire, but someone else feels the pain, so you keep sticking your hand in 
the fire.

I'm a big fan of Radiolab, and I think Chuck is too. This episode caught my 
attention, and may be a harbinger of doom for us all. The Candida Auris fungus 
may be difficult to become infected with, but the fatality rate is 20%-60%, and 
there is no vaccine.
