Well, the SAS doesn’t care. But to get authorized to transmit and to send
heartbeats, the SM needs to communicate SM-AP-cnMaestro. And it needs to use
that trick where a CBSD is allowed to transmit very briefly before
authorization, and then the AP takes the SM under its wing and gets the grant
information from cnMaestro.

Similar mechanism if you set alternate color codes, so SMs can move
automatically to an alternate sector.

That would make sense. The AP/SM thing is just a Cambium/CNmaestro thing.
CBRS doesn't care who the parent is, it needs to know the
bearing/elevation/position.

so all you do is put up a 2nd AP and once its online change the Color Code to
the same code the old SM's are and the sms move over to the new AP and the CBRS
data transfers over automatically in Maestro?

Matt thanks, we did that today and all the SMs just moved automagically to the
replacement AP.

We imported a sector consisting of just the empty AP, and pre approved
onboarding in cnMaestro. It was Authorized and Waiting for Device. Once the
new AP was plugged in, it synced and enabled CBRS and the SMs moved over
without any manual intervention. Pretty cool.

In my experience, you just CPI file a new empty AP and sync it once you have it
in place.
The SMs should move to the new AP in the SAS admin tool once they register and
the grants get re-used.

Then once the old AP is empty in cnMaestro SAS Admin tool you deregister the
old AP and delete it from the system.

No reason to refile all of the subs just to swap out the AP.

Ken,
since the addition of the export button in the management tool it makes it
easy todo.
The key is ensuring you have a current sheet with all of your sector info and
subs info up to date.
update the sheet with new AP and your ready to go.

Of course to answer your question to make a smoother transition is to place the
new ap into part 90
so you obtain all of your subs then update your management tool.

I am sure someone here may correct me if im wrong.

Thanks
Dave

Has anyone figured out the best procedure for replacing a Cambium CBRS AP?

I’m guessing there is something more elegant and less disruptive than deleting
the whole sector while the tech is swapping out the AP and then re importing
into cnMaestro from a spreadsheet and hoping everything goes smoothly and
customers are only down for a few minutes.

I’m talking about replacing an AP that is in service but with issues. Over the
years we’ve run into RF issues with the original connectorized 450 APs. I’ve
never established whether it’s the AP or the sector antenna, but replacing it
solves the modulation and V/H ratio issues.

The same procedure would also apply if you are upgrading to a 450i or 450m AP.
