Talking about a 3.5mm stereo plug with a narrow body, evidently also used for
phones with a case so the plug will fit through the hole in the case.

I got an overpriced Insignia brand “3.5mm Mini Ajudio Extension Cable” at Best
Buy that does fit (barely). Not complaining about the price, that’s what I get
for the convenience of running out to a brick-and-mortar store. I believe
Insignia is Best Buy’s house brand.

I think on a stereo plug the connections are left/right/ground and on a headset
connector left/right/mic/ground. Not sure if there is any compatibility
between 3 and 4 connection plugs and jacks.

I thought those rings were left/right/mic - never seen a fourth one.

Talking about 2.5 mm 1/4 stereo jacks when you say slim plug? Or the rj11 4
pin?

What are people doing to get a headphone cable to fit on these? I had an
installer complain the jack is too close to body of the SM and so I checked and
he’s right, unless you have a slim plug.

I can find some M-F extension cables on Amazon from Startech or Parts Express,
but the reviews say they are flaky or don’t last. My install guy says that’s
probably inherent with any slim style plug. The short Cables To Go extension
cables I’ve been ordering definitely do not have slim plugs.

I’ve seen people with smartphone headphones that have very slim plugs at the
end of the cable, but they seem to be 4-conductor not stereo, I assume the 4th
wire is for a microphone.
