I had to have special motorola test software when doing FCC type approvals for my antennas.
I would think loading something onto UBNT that could cause it to misbehave would invalidate the FCC approval. But folks have been rooting linksys routers for years. Hmmm.... They could maybe get in trouble with the FCC, but until that happens, it's kind of hard to argue that it's harmed them. And if they argue that their sales were hurt by copyright violations (or whatever it is they're trying to say), I would think that's going to be tough to prove... Cambium could even argue that their customer started buying UBNT CPE because they're cheaper than the Cambium equivalent. But they seem to have taken the National Enquirer approach, usually when you hear those kinds of things, they don’t go anywhere. It will be interesting to see what happens. As far as the FCC violation goes, they were more careful in their wording. To my understanding, they basically said that hacking the firmware gives someone the ability to violate FCC limits and doesn’t imply that they can prove anyone actually did. Could be they felt that they were compelled to file this case whether they feel they can win or not…..
