https://thepihut.com/products/ps-2-keyboard-mouse-to-usb-adapter - then you can
use a proper old IBM keyboard too.

And I probably still have a couple of adapters like that from 25 or 30 years
ago. I probably never tried it with a pi. They used to be ubiquitous. But
why bother unless you already have a PS/2 mouse that you like? Why would a
PS/2 mouse take that much current either?  1.5A x 5V = 7.5 watts: I doubt it;
you’d notice the heat.

If you have a wheel mouse with a fairly stiff wheel (don’t want to accidentally
scroll while using it as a button), it’s not that bad, but makes some chords
hard. And if you want a 3-button USB mouse, you can find that too. Evoluent,
for example. I got a cheapie non-vertical mouse on aliexpress that has 3
buttons AND a wheel (like evoluent), but it’s flaky (hardware or firmware);
often it works, sometimes it just doesn’t have the buttons working at all.
Maybe it was just bad luck with that one.

Another way to look at it is that PS/2 is just a sort of 5-volt serial port.
Probably you could use GPIO or a UART somehow, with a level shifter (3.3 to 5)
and a custom driver. But it’s probably not worth the trouble.
