Correcting myself: dvi to ps works (with kerTeX dvips) but interpreting this
PostScript by Plan9 ghostscript to generate PDF fails.

BTW, for totally other reasons (I need to find a way to fill a PDF
AcroForm on command line), I found pdfio:

that is C and is under Apache License (needs to be extended---I'm on
it---, but it is C not C++, and neither Afero nor GPL). FWIW.
