We have a set of instructions for creating root pool snapshots and root pool recovery, here: http://www.solarisinternals.com/wiki/index.php/ZFS_Troubleshooting_Guide#ZFS_Root_Pool_Recovery The zfs send and recv options used in this wiki enable you to restore the root pool dataset properties. Currently, you have to reset the pool's bootfs property and other customized properties to recreate the root pool. An RFE is filed to provide improved pool recovery.
