I was referring to restoring TO a snapshot. However, I didnt mandate that the incomming stream WAS a snapshot :-} Your point about snapshots being blocks, not files, is well taken. However, the limitation that receive of a "full send" can only be done to an automatically created new filesystem, is overly burdensome. Wouldnt it be more useful, if it had the capability to restore to a newly created snapshot of an existing zfs filesystem, rsync style? Thanks for the ADM reference.
