I was thinking more for a file by file access.

ls might show just a file named 'foo'

but if you typed cd foo@@/
then ls

you might see files in this new 'directory' named 1 2 3 etc. that 
reperesent the snapshots of that file over time.

I mentioned clearcase, but I was not suggesting implementing an SCM 
tool. Just using the existing UI for live access to previous versions.
