Thanks to the kind advice of yourself and Mertol Ozyoney, there is a huge boost in write performance: Was: 154MB/second Now: 279MB/second The average service time for each disk LUN has dropped considerably. The numbers provided by 'zfs iostat' are very close to what is measured by 'iozone'. This is like night and day and gets me very close to my original target write speed of 300MB/second.
