if i' not wrong ... a logo should be printable and clear on black &
white ... i guess the logo as it is now is ok.
your improvement could be used for wallpapers and general artwork ..
but in my opinion the official one shouldn't use shadows or other
effects.

Maybe, you are a bit behind the times. Logo can be 3d, glossy, and can
have shadows. Check out the official Apple logo.
