It begins to look to me as though it's a keyword problem ...

the map contains:

    <keydef keys="awl">
      <topicmeta>
        <keywords>
          <keyword>Worldline</keyword>
        </keywords>
      </topicmeta>
    </keydef>

    <keydef keys="hsm">
      <topicmeta>
        <keywords>
          <keyword>HSM</keyword>
        </keywords>
      </topicmeta>
    </keydef>

topic wss_001.dita resolves the awl keyword correctly:

<p><keyword keyref="awl"/> terminals

topic wss_003.dita does not resolve the hsm keyword correctly:

<p>The database is used to store and manage WSS configuration data (users,
roles, profiles, functions ...) and operational data such as current signing
requests. The database is also used for cryptographic keys, if the optional
<keyword keyref="hsm"/> has not been installed.</p>

Subject: conversion to .pdf fails ...

Good morning -

conversion of wss.ditamap is falling over, and I don't understand the message.
Please let me know what I've done wrong this time! Note that I did run Check
map first; it reported no errors.

I've attached a .zip with the source files, though this is embarrassing large
because it's a book I inherited and I have not yet had time to check the
graphics. The log is here:
