Thanks! I do tend to assume that XML Mind can do it, whatever "it" is and as
long as I can find out how to ;-} I'll a) read the docs; b) experiment with the
XMLmind XSL Customizer.

By the way ... may I suggest a small addition to one <dd> in one help topic? I
was reading pageHeaderFooter yesterday for a reminder about {{document-date}},
and ended up a bit confused because of not knowing quite enough. What threw me
for awhile was not being reminded that the <critdates> element is also
available in a <prolog>.

as-is

{{document-date}}

The value of the variable comes from the last created or revised element found

{{document-date}}

The publication date of the document.

The value comes from the last created or revised element found in the critdates
element, which can be in the <prolog> of a topic, the <topicmeta> of a map or
the <topicmeta> of a bookmap.

Good news from this need, by the way: IT Support have sent me an .exe they
assure me will install an up-to-date XXE on my laptop! I shall not try it until
I've finished today's work, though ... Also, three colleagues have been to see
me quite spontaneously to ask what DITA is and how it could help them. They all
seemed convinced by what I explained.
