Here is an issue that occurs in XMLmind XML Editor 7.4 on macOS when the
program is using the default font family settings (that is, the fonts
nammed 'Serif', 'SansSerif', 'Monospaced' - these fonts appears to be
Java-spesific, as there are no such fonts in the macOS):
For capital letters with diacritics (e.g. French ÀÂ, Norwegian Å,
Russian Ё) that occur inside certain DITA elements, then XXE 7.4 does
not display the diacritic part of the letter. As a result, it is
impossible to see whether, for example, an Å is an Å or an A. See the
attached screenshot.
I have discovered this problem in the <title> element (inside topics),
<topicref>, <mainbooktitle>, but it may occur elsewere.
For DocBook, I made a brief check of <title> in <article>, and
discovered the same issue there.
The problem disappeared when I changed the serif font to 'DejaVu Serif'
or 'Times New Roman'. The issue can probably be solved via CSS: givings
these elements a slightly increased line-height would probably solve the
issue. But on the other side, there might be an issue with the default
'Serif' font that XXE is using.
