You once confirmed that backwards search was slower.
Yes, the backwards search for a regular expression is indeed slow.
(Backwards search for plain text and forward search for a regular
expression don't seem to be slow.)
Hence this might
not be a surprise, or even interesting: XXE 7.4 became unresponsive when
searching backwards for a regex expression.
Yes, backwards search for a regular expression *may* cause XXE to become
unresponsive, but just for a few seconds (which is already much too long).
We'll look at this and try to understand why this happens.
Since it was only 8 minutes
since saving the document, I decided, having waited 1-2 minutes, to
force quit. Below is the crash log. I cannot remember having experienced
this before, but I have experienced that backwards search is slow (hence
I do not use it that often).
The crash log is not useful (created by "force quit", I suppose). What
we need to know is:
1) which Java platform (macOS OK, but which Java runtime?) you are using;
2) what to do to reproduce the bug. For example, which regular
expression did you use?
For now, we have noted that we must re-test on the Mac what follows:
A) How the XXE translation add-on behaves when you use "File →
Translation → Build and Install the Add-on to Test it" and later "File →
Translation → Uninstall the Test Add-on".
B) Backwards search for a regular expression.
