Yes, you are right, and this poses problems in elements only containing child elements like office:text.

This implies that indentation white space may be kept untouched in these elements.

Therefore even if what you saying is correct, it's not a good idea to use <preserveSpace> on elements office:text.

(I found this by simply opening one of your document templates.)
