I've set up the following three files:

-An <assembly ...> file master.xml referencing the subsequent two modules.

-First <topic>  minimalDoc.xml

-Second <topic> processLatex.xml

I can open all three in XML Mind 6.6 and they are being marked as valid.

Starting from master.xml I'm also able to start a conversion to Web help
getting the expected result.

However starting from e.g. minimalDoc.xml and opening tools-->Open
Navigation Pane, then selecting master.xml in the subsequent dialog
fails with the attached error message.

All three files are being contained in dbassembly.zip available at
https://cloud.mi.hdm-stuttgart.de/owncloud/index.php/s/JOON3NLwXhYXDsr .

The error message "...master.xml is not a master document of any kind..." is normal as XMLmind XML Editor currently does not support opening a DocBook 5.1 assembly in a navigation pane. I mean, this feature is currently not implemented.

This limitation is explained here: http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/addons_doc.html#docbook51_config

Please note that XXE v6.7 (to released in a few weeks) has an enhanced add-on "DocBook v5.1 configuration (Release Candidate)" but this enhanced add-on

1) does not support opening a DocBook 5.1 assembly in a navigation pane;

2) is not part of a stock distribution (that is, it must be downloaded and installed using "Options|Install Add-ons").

The reasons for the above limitations are:

a) DocBook 5.1 is not yet an OASIS standard;

b) "DocBook 5.1: The Definitive Guide" v1.4.14 (http://docbook.org/tdg51/en/html/docbook.html) has not yet been updated to document the latest DocBook 5.1 schemas.
