I just resent the message to the email you asked.
The default is blit on my non-Retina Mac (early 2009 13 inch MacBook).
Thank you very much!
As a workaround for this Apple Java bug, the scroll mode is now always
forced to be simple when running Apple Java. scrollMode=simple is the
only mode which does not cause any problem on a non-Retina screen and
also on a Retina screen.
This workaround is present in XXE v6.6, planned for tomorrow.

In a separate message to you, I did the experiment you asked for. For
others, the results were:
1. blit: garbles the screen when scrolling
2. simple: works fine
3. backingstore: works fine but using the two finger swipe to scrolls
appears to scroll jerkily.
This is with the Apple Java 1.6.0_65.
While this is encouraging to know that the simple mode works, we are
actually using an old version of XXE: 5.3.0.

Thanks!
Can you please resend the separate message to hussein.sha...@gmail.com
(no gray listing technique on gmail.com which delays the emails)
because it's now quite urgent for us to know what's the default mode
for Apple Java 1.6.0_65 on a non-Retina Mac.
This info will determine if we need to force scrollMode=simple for
Apple Java 1.6.0_65 on a non-Retina Mac or not.
Note that if
* blit: garbles the screen when scrolling,
* you are using an old version of XXE: 5.3.0,
then the scrolling issues can be explained. Unlike XXE v6.5+, XXE v5.3
forces the scrollMode to blit. Hence the scrolling issues.
