Hussein:

In a separate message to you, I did the experiment you asked for. For others, the results were:

1. blit: garbles the screen when scrolling
2. simple: works fine
3. backingstore: works fine but using the two finger swipe to scrolls appears to scroll jerkily.

This is with the Apple Java 1.6.0_65.

While this is encouraging to know that the simple mode works, we are actually using an old version of XXE: 5.3.0.

Hello.

The XMLmind XML Editor archives
(<http://www.xmlmind.com/pipermail/xmleditor-support/2015-December/011332.html>http://www.xmlmind.com/pipermail/xmleditor-support/2015-December/011332.html),
has a discussion on scrolling issues on a Mac running El Capitan. From
what I can tell, there is no message in the archives outlining a
definite solution.

Since some of us have also run into this issue, how did you solve it?

I don't know.

Hussein says it worked fine on a MacBook Pro Retina but that he was
going to test it on a non-retina Mac.

Sorry but it appears that we no longer have access to a non-Retina Mac.

(Four of us have non-retina Macs
and the scrolling scramble happens on all four.)
As I mentioned, I do
not see in the archives a report on what he found.

Hussein suggested Robert Ramey try uninstalling and re-installing the
Apple Java 1.6.0_65 runtime.

Did that work?

I don't know. I don't think Robert Ramey, who uses XXE v6.5,

(A) installed the Apple Java 1.6.0_65 runtime *adapted* *to* *El* *Capitan* which must be downloaded from:

Download Java for OS X 2015-001
https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572?locale=en_US

OR

(B) on the contrary, uninstalled the Apple Java runtime to let XXE use its bundled Oracle 1.8.0_66 runtime.

[[[Uninstalling the Apple Java 1.6.0_65 runtime is as simple as executing:

sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk

sudo rm -rf /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0*.jdk

in a Terminal.]]]

It is very unlikely that when running XXE v6.5 on El Capitan, you'll still have this issue after doing (A) or (B).

Or are we stuck until El Capitan fixes this issue?

May be not, if you help us workaround this Apple Java bug before Wednesday because we are about to release XXE V6.6.

First of all, please send me the contents of your clipboard after running XXE on a Mac having this issue, selecting "Help|About XMLmind XML Editor", then clicking "Copy". See http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/helpMenu.html#aboutAction

We really need to know at least (1) which version of XXE you are using and (2) which version of Java you are using.
