--> The DELETE and BACKSPACE keys work as expected in all the configurations we have developped here at XMLmind.

The DELETE and BACKSPACE keys also work as expected when the document being opened is not associated to any configuration.

Please open any of the XML documents found in the demo/ folder and check this by yourself.

--> The problem is specific to the xml2rfc add-on (depicted in the screenshot you sent us) which has not been upgraded to support recent XMLmind XML Editor versions.

Please note that the xml2rfc add-on is not developed nor maintained by us, XMLmind.

This issue has already been reported by another xml2rfc user (running the Editor on Windows; this is not a platform problem). A detailed answer is found in this thread:

http://www.mail-archive.com/xmleditor-support@xmlmind.com/msg09976.html

Excerpts from this thread:
---
It seems that the xml2rfc add-on uses a number of commands which no longer exist in XXE v5.5. Among these commands:

* (For sure) selectById, superseded by selectLink, quite a long time ago.

See http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/commands/selectLink.html

* (May be) deleteSelectionOrJoinOrDeleteChar, generally bound to BACKSPACE and DELETE, superseded deleteSelectionOrJoinBlockOrDeleteChar by as of v5.5.

See http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/commands/deleteSelectionOrJoinBlockOrDeleteChar.html

PS: Unrelated to your issue (which is not a platform nor a Java problem): on Mac OS X, XXE runs better with Apple Java 1.6. For example, the rendering of text is much, much, nicer than with Oracle Java 1.7.

I have been using XMLMind XML Editor 4 for several years, and have
recently upgraded to XMLMind Professional 5.6.0. I observed this in the
evaluation version, and having downloaded and installed the professional
version, also observe it. I did not observe it in XMLMind XML Editor 4.

Problem:
When I touch the "delete" key, I expect it to delete the preceding
character. It doesn't. Nor does it delete the succeeding character or
anything else.

XXE: 5.6.0 Professional.

OS: MacOSX 10.8.4

Java: 7, to and including update 25

I include two screen shots, one about 30 seconds after the other. The
cursor will be observed to be immediately following the word "This" at
the start of the abstract in both photos. In between the screen shots, I
hit "delete", which in XMLMind XML Editor 4 and on every other
application on my computer would result in the terminating "s" being
deleted, resulting in the word "Thi".
