It appears that setting BuildFonts to NO in host.def is not enough. I got rid of the above error and got a clean build by creating a fonts sub-directory in the shadow build directory and putting an empty Imakefile in the fonts sub-directory, like this: /src/xfree86/build# mkdir fonts /src/xfree86/build# touch fonts/Imakefile Then make World ran to a successful completion.
