( I hope you will excuse my English ) I have
installed Debian Linux 4.1.0 . The incoming X server does not work .
I have to exclude it . In the remaining DOS like screen some keyboard keys do not work properly ( i.e. keycode 39
key = ograve,ccedilla do not work ; at : works ) .
The XFree86 version is : 4.1.0.1 ; The
O.S. is : Linux 2.2.20 ; The video
card is : SiS M650_651_650_740 .
Reading in your web site it seemed to me that
XFree86 4.3.0 should work . ( You say : 4.3.0 Support ( accelerated ) for
the SiS ....650,651, and 740 is provided by the "sis" driver . ) . As a
matter of fact I was , ONCE , able to install 4.3.0 ( i could see the Gnome
Desktop Manager screen ) , but I saw that the <> key did not work in the
Lazarus Editor and I decided to reinstall Linux and XFree86 . I was not able to
reinstall XFree86 again . ( I tried 6/9 times ) .
When I installed with sh Xinstall.sh ( 12
mandatory and 6 optional files ) , I remember , I was told : " You must
install glide .... " and put a soft link for libglide2x.so in
/......./modules to point where libglide2x.so
really is ( /usr/lib/libglide2 if I remeber correctly ) . I ( think )
installed libglide2 with dselect and made the link .
As I said I repeated many times the installations
but I am not able to install , newly , XFree86 . I saved /etc/X11
files. When I run XFree86 -configure , everything crashes and I have
to reinstall from zero . May be I do not remember/do anything . Can you
tell me if 4.3.0 matches my video card ? Is there a way not to have to
reinstall from zero using XFree86 -configure ?
I send ( from 4.1.0.1 ) XFree86.0.log ,
XF86Config-4 , scanpci.log ( from scanpci ) .
Thank You very much . Yours Sincerely
